The Happy Lion

At the end of the story, why doesn't the lion ever want to leave his cage again?

  1. He doesn't want to scare away his friends again.

My first piece of evidence shows that he scared some people.
pg.17"Huuuuuuuuuuuuhhhhhh...cried the ladies, and ran away,as if an ogre were after them."

My next piece of evidence shows that he scared Monsieur Dupont.
pg17"Hooooooooohhh...answered Monsieur Dupont, and fainted onto the sidewalk.

My last piece of evidence shows that he wanted a friend.
pg19"Then he got up and went on with his stroll in search of a friend who would not faint,or scream,or run away.

  2. The people were weird to him.

    Madame Pinson was being weird.
pg18 oo-la-la cried Madame Pinson and threw her shopping bag full of vegetables into the lions face.

people were saying Bonjour in a weird way.
pg17 what a silly way to say Bonjour said the happy lion and padded along on his big soft paws.

The lion was scaring people so they screamed.
pg19before the lion could even nod and say bonjour the music became screams and yells.

  3. The lion was most happy in his cage.

pg 22 " He was happier to sit his rock garden."
This quote shows that the lion did not miss being outside his cage.

pg 21 "From then on the happy lion got the best tidbits the town saved for him."
This quote shows that the lion liked the tidbits more than crazy people.

pg 22 "all his old friends came again like polite and sensible people to say "Bonjour", Happy Lion."
This quote shows that the lion liked the people saying bonjour to the lion.

  4. The lion liked it better at the zoo.

pg 22 "He was happier to sit in his rock garden."
As you can see he would rather sit in his rock garden then walk around town.

pg 22 "From then on the happy lion got the best tidbits the town saved for him."
Their wasn't any tidbits out side his cage.

pg 22 " all his old friends came again like polite and sensible people to say "Bonjour, Happy Lion.""
The Happy Lion liked it when people said Bonjour and not scream at him.

I agree because your point about there not being any tidbits shows he is happier in the zoo.

  5. The first time the Happy Lion went out he scared all the other people.

pg 17''Hooooooooohhh...'' answered Monsieur Dupont, and fainted onto the sidewalk."
the happy lion scard him to much he fainted.

pg 17''Huuuuuuuuuuuuhhhhhh...'' cried the three ladies and ran away as if an ogre was after them."
This shows that outside his cage, he was treated poorly.

pg 18 "Madame Pinson threw her shopping bag full of vegetable into the lions face!"
Madame Pinson was suprisd that the lion was out of the cage

  6. The lion never wanted the crazy things h e saw to happen again.

pg18 "Madean Pinson threw her shopping bag in his face."when Madean Pinson threw her shopping bag on his face!"
The happy lion did not want it to happen again.

The happy lion would not go visiting again is because if he stays in his cage he will get the best tidbits in town.
pg 22"He would not wish to go out visiting again."

pg17"Monsiour Dupont fainted onto the side walk."

  7. The lion never wants to leave his cage again because he likes having friends.

There are three examples of the lion having friends on page 14. Every morning Francois stops by and says “Bonjour, Happy Lion.” In the afternoons Monsieur Dupont does the same. Madame Pinson, who knits every day by the band stand, let’s the lion know she is leaving by saying “Au revoir, Happy Lion.” These people all act very nice to the lion and make the lion feel loved.

When the lion is outside his friends do not appear to be friends at all. Monsieur Dupont fainted, (pg 17). Some people ran away from him as if he were an Ogre. (pg 17) Madame Pinson threw a bag of groceries at him.(pg 18) and the entire band ran away from him. (pg 19)

His only friend outside the cage was Francois who greeted the lion as usual. (pg21)
Once he got back to his cage his friends returned to normal and they returned to being nice and polite by saying “Bonjour” and “Au revoir” without fainting or running away.

As you can see, the lion would not have many friends outside of this cage and he would much rather have friends over his freedom.
